R-5 School District News & Views By Superintendent of Schools Sarrah Morgan

February is National Career and Technical Education (CTE) month. Career and Technical Education Month® is a public awareness campaign, hosted by the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and sponsored by National Association of Home Builders, that takes place each February to celebrate CTE, the accomplishments of CTE programs and the importance of CTE for all students of all ages.

The Lexington R-V School District is fortunate to provide the following CTE programs to our students: Middle School Agriculture and Family and Consumer Science (FCS), and High School Agriculture, FCS, Business/Marketing, and Introduction to Skilled Technical Sciences. Also available to juniors and seniors in our District, and surrounding districts, Lex La-Ray Technical Center hosts the following programs: Automotive Technology, Building Trades, Collision Repair, Computer Maintenance & Networking, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood/Teaching Professions, Health Occupations, and Welding. Students who complete these programs can earn Industry Recognized Credentials (IRC), prior to graduation. In addition to the classes that are offered, Lex La-Ray provides exploratory programming for students Pre-K through High School.

Lex La-Ray has several activities planned to recognize CTE month. Each Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) will take a week to celebrate.

o    SkillsUSA - Feb 5-9

o    FCCLA - Feb 12-16

o    FFA - Feb 17-24

o    HOSA - Feb 26-Mar 1

CTSOs will compete in a “Change War” against each other. Money collected will be divided toward travel expenses for competitions. Staff members will be highlighted within the building, sharing why CTE is important to them. Senior CTE students will be “spotlighted” on social media during the weeks listed above. Lex La-Ray will be sharing information from ACTE and CTSOs on social media throughout the month.
