The Board adopted the District's current Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP) in December 2022. This plan governs and leads the District in all facets of its operation in the current year and years ahead, as directed by the Board.
School safety is always on the forefront of everyone's mind. The District CSIP addresses safety and security in Goal 5; Provide a comprehensive analysis and recommendations for best practices of safety and security. The Superintendent, or designee, will direct an analysis of the Safety and Security systems of the District and research best practices. The goal is to expand on the work already initiated in the District.
The following action steps have been taken, thus far, in working toward accomplishing this goal:
District Emergency Operations Plans are under continuous review.
The District has partnered with MSBA - Center for Education Safety to participate in the Missouri Emergency Operations Plan software program.
The District's insurer, MUSIC, conducted an on-site risk assessment walk-through in May. Recommendations were reviewed and addressed.
The Lexington Police Department came on-site for staff training in each building prior to school start.
The District applied for and was awarded a State Safety Grant in the amount of $150,000. These funds will be utilized to secure glass entry ways with safety film.
I attended the three day School Safety Academy, sponsored by MSBA - Center for Education Safety. Training included the following topics: Role of the School Safety Specialist, Trauma Informed and Mental Health Resources, Courage2Report, Stop Trafficking Project, Cyber-Security and Social Media Safety, Bullying and Cyberbullying, Site Assessments, Emergency Operations Planning/Incident Command System/Drills, Behavioral Risk Assessment and Management, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, Stop the Bleed, Legal Aspects of School Safety, Reunification and Crisis Communication, SRO Roles, Youth Crisis Intervention and De-Escalation, and Suicide Prevention. I am now a certified School Safety Specialist. In addition, I was able to bring back a Stop the Bleed kit and AED for our District.
Lexington R-V will continue to prioritize safety and security within the District. Our students and staff have the right to feel safe, and attend school in an environment that is conducive to learning and achievement. #minutemenstrong
